NAIDOC Week 2022

NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and is a great opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

There are two City activities occurring during National NAIDOC Week (3-10 July 2022) at Mandurah Museum.

The Celebrating NAIDOC Week exhibition showcases the artwork of well-known local Bindjareb artist Gloria Kearing. The Museum will provide a self-guided booklet for children to complete during the school holidays, encouraging them to explore Gloria’s paintings and read her stories. Completing this booklet will increase their awareness of how Noongar people live on, enjoy, and care for the land.

Inspired by Gloria’s stories, children can make a pom-pom turtle and decorate it with their own unique patterns to take home and play with.

Mandurah / Mandjoogoordap is situated in Bindjareb country and the celebrations for NAIDOC Week are organised through the Bindjareb NAIDOC Committee.

Due to recent events of COVID-19 and other unforeseen circumstances, the NAIDOC committee, Winjan Aboriginal Corporation and the community have agreed it would be beneficial for local celebrations to be held later on in the year to allow the Bindjareb (Mandurah) community the opportunity to celebrate a standalone event which will have better outcomes.

More information on NAIDOC Week celebrations in November will be available closer to the date.
